Growing up, I only knew two of my father's siblings, Aunt Shirley and Uncle Warren and their families. When we lived in IL. Aunt Shirley & Uncle Vic were frequent visitors to our suburban home. My youngest sister is their namesake. She is Shirley Victoria.
Aunt Shirley helped fill in the gaps in my understanding family history on my father's side of the family. I am grateful that I had the time to spend with her while she lived in FL. and know that my mom enjoyed her company too. My dad was dependent on her while he was alive as she helped care for him after my mom passed away. Her decision to move to MO. to be near her remaining sibling after my dad's passing left us out of touch.
Now there is only one family connection left to my father. This is what I call Family Contractions.

Dearest Family of Shirley:
My memories of Shirley (and Vic) are so very fond. Vic built the house next door to me as I live in the house I grew up in. Shirley was over quite often and when I was a youngster, she came over with something in her pocket - it was Cha Cha, their black poodle. My family welcomed little Cha Cha as if she was our own.
Vic's passion for building took them to another house he build on Route 53 in Lombard. Although it was sad to see them leave the neighborhood, my parents very often went to dinner, did a couple of vacations, and played pinochle with Shirley & Vic. When I moved out of my house into a townhouse, Shirley was nice enough to give me her old bedroom set which I used for a number of years. Also, when they moved from Hammerschmidt, we were blessed with yet another great neighbor with 4 girls for whom I babysat.
She moved to Florida as so did my folks. They lived some miles apart but talked on the phone and Shirley would come up to visit now and again. Then she moved to Missouri. I only kept in touch at Christmas and I will sorely miss not sending her a card. Interestingly enough, I thought about her yesterday (Tuesday 9/11) just out of the blue and thought I would send her a note. Tonite my neighbor (in Shirley's house next to me) informed me of Shirley's passing and I immediately read the Lombardian.
I also would stop and say hi to Vicky (Muzzey) at Osco when she worked there.
What a great family and I will always hear the voice and laughter of Shirley and Vic. He used to call my mother (Adele) Ardele and she would always correct him.
God bless the family and I hope Shirley and Vic are reunited with my parents (Rich and Adele) in heaven and are playing cards.
Fondly,
Patty
