Obituary of Michael David Holmes
Funeral services for Michael David Holmes of Foley, MO, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 5, 2009 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield, MO. Rev. Richard Turnbull, of Winfield, will officiate with burial in Whispering Winds Cemetery in Winfield. Serving as pallbearers will be Casey Holmes, Brad Cook, John Frisosky, Justin Frisosky, Kyle Cook, Jimmy Eggering, Cody Waggoner, Ron Pecoraro, and Chris Pecoraro.
Mr. Holmes, 66, passed away Friday afternoon, January 2, 2009 at Barnes St. Peters Hospital in St. Peters, MO. Born August 31, 1942, he was the son of Claude and Emma Holmes. He was united in marriage on August 11, 1963 in St. Charles, MO to Elizabeth Ann Whitaker. This union was blessed with two children: David Michael and Bonny Susann. He was later married to Sharon Virginia O'Brien on April 6, 1984 in Elsberry, MO. Mr. Holmes worked for thirty years as an Associate Manager for Bridgeton and Firestone, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Foley Baptist Church. He was a former Foley police officer and served as a volunteer firefighter.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Claude and Emma Holmes; five brothers: Paul Holmes, Fred Holmes, Gene Holmes, Bill Holmes, and James Holmes; and his first wife, Elizabeth Holmes who died December 22, 1980.
Mr. Holmes is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, Sharon Holmes of Foley; one son; David Holmes and his wife, Lori, of Foley; one daughter, Bonny Holmes of Foley; two stepsons: Donald "Butch" Cook of St. Genevieve, MO, and Dan Cook and his wife, Denise, of Pacific, MO; three stepdaughters: Tama Pecoraro and her husband, Phil, of Wildwood, MO, Debra Vassas and her husband, Michael, of Foley, MO; and Jackie Eggering of Winfield; twenty grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He also leaves two sisters: Barbara Franke of Winfield, MO, and Naomi Hatten and her husband, Doc, of Mexico, MO; and his father-in law and mother-in-law, Don and Eloise Whitaker, of Salem, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 4, 2009 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
