Obituary of Gilbert George Hackmann

Gilbert George Hackmann Funeral services for Gilbert George Hackmann of Old Monroe, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 30, 2007 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield. Fr. Don Westor, pastor of All Saints Catholic Church in St. Peters, MO, will officiate with burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery near Old Monroe. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons: Paul Justus, Doyle Justus, Darrin Justus, Ron Russell, Randy Russell, Jason Hackmann and Zach Handing. Mr. Hackmann, 87, died late Monday evening, November 26, 2007 at St. John's Skilled Nursing in St. Louis, MO. Born January 25, 1920 in Old Monroe, he was the son of William Henry and Meta Elnora Meier Hackmann. He was united in marriage on June 4, 1946 in St. Paul, MO, to Magdalen Cecilia Burkemper. This union was blessed with eight children: Rita, Norma, Gerald, Carolyn, Theresa, Mark, Janice and Patti. Mr. Hackmann was engaged in farming and livestock buying and hauling. He retired in January, 1997. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Meta Hackmann; his beloved wife of 41 years, Magdalen Hackmann, who died on December 16, 1987; one son, Mark Hackmann, who died in 1974; and one grandson, Bryan Hackmann, who died in 1995. Survivors include one son: Gerald Hackmann and his wife, Diana, of Old Monroe; six daughters: Rita Justus and her husband, Ernest, of Troy, MO, Norma Gwaltney and her husband, Dee, of O'Fallon, MO, Carolyn Bruning of Warrenton, MO, Theresa Merlo of St. Louis, MO, Janice Handing and her husband, Bob, of O'Fallon, MO, and Patti Hieb and her husband, Gary, of St. Peters, MO. He also leaves one sister, Esther Freese and her husband, Paul, of Winfield, MO; 18 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2007 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
