Obituary of Orval Eugene Irvin

Orval E. Irvin Funeral Services for Orval Eugene Irvin of St. Charles, MO will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield, MO. Steve Jones of Troy Wesleyan Church in Troy, MO will officiate with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery in Elsberry, MO. Serving as pallbearers will be Derek Irvin, Dan Ohmes, Ricky Broderick, Chris Gerdiman, Randy Lavy, Mike Powelson and Dave Cunningham. Orval, 82, passed away Monday night, June 5, 2023, at the home of his girlfriend and long time companion Carol, and his family. Born September 27, 1940 in Foley, MO, he was the son of Victor L. and Laura Maupin Irvin. Orval served his country in the United States Army from 1959-1961. He was united in marriage on October 1, 1962 in New London, MO to Julia “Judy” Lavy. This union was blessed with two children: Ken and Letichia “Tish”. Orval was a member of the United Auto Workers Union (UAW) Local #325, as a maintenance technician for Ford Motor Company from 1963 until his retirement in 1994. Orval was a servant of Christ, and a member of Cowboy Church of Bowling Green and Wesleyan Church in Troy. A cowboy at heart, Orval was a member of the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association, participated in the Great American Cattle Drive in Montana. Orval was an extra on the movies “The Postman”, “Ride with the Devil” and “Back to Hannibal” and also a Civil War reenactor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Laura (Maupin) Irvin; his beloved wife of 50 years, Judy Irvin, who died on January 8, 2012; his daughter, Tish Broderick who passed in 2019; grandson, Jason Broderick; great-grandchildren: Autumn and Grayson Broderick; siblings: Mary Wilhoit, Vickie Robbins and her husband, Freddie, Shirley Robbins and her husband, Clarence, Anna Mae Danskin, Gary Irvin, Carol Gerdiman and Victor Irvin, Jr.; and brother-in-law, Donald Lavy. Survivors include his son, Ken Irvin and wife, Denise (Hejlik) of O'Fallon, MO; and son-in-law, Richie Broderick, also of O'Fallon, MO; five grandchildren: Jessica Broderick, Ricky Broderick, Kaissie Broderick, Derek Irvin and wife, Karlie, and Katelyn Irvin; and six great-grandchildren: Hope Broderick, Havannah Broderick, Lucas and Victoria Irvin, Nathan and Hailey Broderick. Orval also leaves his companion of 10 years, Carol Hensley of O’Fallon; sister, Thelma Dickinson of Troy; sister-in-law, Ann Irvin of Troy; brothers-in-law: Harold Wilhoit of Columbia, MO and Stan Gerdiman of Troy; in-laws, Dee and Muntzie Lavy, Sonny and Sandra (Lavy) Powelson and Glenda Lavy; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral Services at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home.
