Obituary of Norma Jean Sommer

Memorial Services for Norma Jean Sommer of Eureka, MO will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield, MO. J. Larry Carter of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home will officiate. Mrs. Sommer, 86, passed away Saturday afternoon, May 7, 2022 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, MO. Born December 8, 1935 in Winfield, MO, she was the daughter of Roy Frank and Daserine Myrtle Smith Elston. Norma was a 1953 graduate of Winfield High School. She was united in marriage on September 11, 1954 in St. Paul, MO to Joseph Raymond Sommer. This union was blessed with two daughters: Theresa Marie and Julie Ann. Norma was a loving housewife. She was later united in marriage to Jim Russo. Norma enjoyed travel, sports, quilting and other needlework, and ceramics. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Daserine Elston; one brother, Paul Elston; two sisters: Alice Chambers and Ruby Lindsey; and her husbands: Joseph Sommer and Jim Russo. Survivors include her daughters: Terri Van Orman and her husband, John, of Dodgeville, WI and Julie Kish and her husband, John, of Eureka; three grandchildren, Heron Bruhin and his wife, Anya, Jennifer Kish and her husband, Patrick, Justin Kish, and two great-grandchildren: Fox Bruhin and Connor Kish. Norma also leaves one sister, Phyllis Duncan and her husband, Howard, of Winfield; one sister-in-law, Betty Elston of Winfield; many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
