Obituary of Roberta Jane Houston

Memorial Services for Roberta Jane Houston of Elsberry, MO will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.  Rev. Floyd Gudde, pastor of the Elsberry United Methodist Church will officiate.


Roberta, 78, passed away Sunday afternoon, June 23, 2019 at Troy Manor in Troy, MO.  Born April 14, 1941 in Elsberry, she was the daughter of Edward Palmer and Reiva Annalice Roberts Cox.  Roberta was a 1959 graduate of Elsberry High School.  She worked as the secretary for Clarence Cannon Elementary and Ida Cannon Middle School in the Lincoln County R-2 School District for many years, retiring in 2006.  Even after her retirement, Roberta continued to support the Elsberry Music Boosters and the student body.  She later worked as a teller for Providence Bank, retiring in 2014.  Roberta was a devoted St. Louis Cardinals Fan.  She loved quilting, embroidery, sewing, flowers and the great outdoors.  A lifelong resident of Elsberry, Roberta attended Elsberry United Methodist Church, Elsberry First Christian Church and Mt. Zion ARPresbyterian Church.
 

Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Reiva Cox; and one brother-in-law, Charles Hammack.

Survivors include her children: Tena Houston and her partner, Shannon Paulsen, of Moberly, MO, Louis Houston of Elsberry, and Gene Houston, also of Elsberry; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  Roberta also leaves one brother, Bill Cox and his wife, Lorene “Buttons”, of Lee’s Summit, MO; one sister, Susan Hammack, also of Lee’s Summit; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many, many friends.

Visitation will be held immediately following the Memorial Service until 5:00 p.m. at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home.  Memorials may be made to the Elsberry R-2 Schools, Operation Backpack, or the Elsberry Health Care Center in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 S. 5th Street; Elsberry, MO 63343.
