I remember being a very shy and nervous 1st grader. It was the first day of school and I didn’t know where to go. Almost in tears I started to wonder the hallway. Here comes Mrs. Houston! She was walking with her granddaughter. She asked me who my teacher would be and walked me to that classroom. She was so kind and wanted me to not worry. That’s my first memory of this awesome lady. She will be forever loved and missed greatly.

God needed an angel and took your mom, releasing her from her pain. She made me feel comfortable when I started school in Elsberry and was always a friend when I seen her anywhere. I took some things to the Nursing home to drop off and She seen me and came to help me. I only wish I had visited her more. I will miss your mom she was such a special person.

Roberta and my mom were best friends in high school and in life. We don’t have the heart to tell our mother of Roberta’s passing as we know how much sorrow it would bring her. I have fond memories of my first plane ride from Washington, D.C. out to Roberta’s farm and being introduced to the band Styx, milking cows, collecting eggs from the hen house, and skipping rocks with Tena. I have kept in contact with Roberta over the years and was lucky enough to be the photographer for hers and my mom’s 50th Elsberry High School Reunion. A time I will never forget. Love you and miss you forever, Roberta.
