Obituary of Richard Franklin Whiteside
Richard F. “Dick” Whiteside, Jr.
Funeral Services for Richard Franklin “Dick” Whiteside, Jr. of Foley, MO will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield, MO. Rev. Roger Briggs, pastor of Star Hope Baptist Church, and Rev. Raymond Doussard will officiate with burial in Star Hope Cemetery near Elsberry, MO. Serving as pallbearers will be John Ambrose, III, Mark Ambrose, Richard Wm. Whiteside, Joe VomBey, Joey VomBey, Richard A. Whiteside, Paige (Ambrose) Thomas, Peyton Ambrose and Abbi Ambrose; honorary pallbearers will be Shannon VomBey, Rick Heitman, Jim Henry, Darrell Wehde, Pete Luetkenhaus, Zach Bryan and Ed Scott.
Mr. Whiteside, 98, passed away Saturday morning, August 18, 2018 at The Cottages of Lake Saint Louis in Lake Saint Louis, MO. Born May 19, 1920 in Foley, MO, he was the son of Richard Franklin “Jack”, Sr. and Mary Creevy Whiteside. Dick was united in marriage on January 1, 1942 in Troy, MO to Frances Evalyne Shannon. This union was blessed with two children, Richard F. “Dickie”, III and Connie. A lifelong resident of the Foley community, he attended Meyer Schoolhouse near Foley and later graduated from Elsberry High School in 1939. Dick was an Honorary FFA Chapter Farmer and farmed the family farm, where he was born, for many, many years. He owned the Whiteside Insurance and Real Estate Agency in Foley, representing American Family Insurance. Dick was a 50+ year member, Past-Master and Past-Secretary of New Hope Masonic Lodge #199 AF & AM in Elsberry; and was a dual member of Lincoln County Lodge #682 AF & AM in Winfield. He was also a long-time member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of St. Louis. He was very active in the Lincoln County Democratic Club, where he was a long-time member of the Central Committee. He and Evalyne helped establish the Lincoln County Grassroots Rally. Dick was a lifelong member of Star Hope Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, R.F. “Jack” and Mary Whiteside; two sisters: Helen Machir and Odessa Trail; one brother, Joe Whiteside; one great, great-grandson, Maverick Ambrose-Becker; and his beloved wife of 64 years, Evalyne Whiteside, who died November 17, 2006.
Survivors include their children: Richard “Dickie” Whiteside and his wife, Diane, of Elsberry, and Connie Ambrose of Foley; four grandchildren: John Ambrose, III, Mark Ambrose and his wife, Jessie, Shannon VomBey and her husband, Joe, and Richard William Whiteside and his wife, Raychel; eight great-grandchildren: Joey VomBey, Hallie (VomBey) Haddock and her husband, Klayton, Veronica Whiteside, Richard Allen Whiteside, Peyton Ambrose, Paige (Ambrose) Thomas and her husband, Gabriel, Abbi Ambrose and Josie Ambrose; and two great, great-grandchildren: Bentley and McKenleigh. He also leaves nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2018 and from 12:00 noon Wednesday until time of the service at 2:00 p.m. at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield. A Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. during Tuesday's visitation.
