Obituary of Everett Anton Rottger

A Mass of Christian Burial for Everett Anton Rottger of Troy, MO will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 8, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church near Old Monroe, MO.  Msgr. Gregory Schmidt and Fr. Richard Rath will officiate with burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers will be Jeremy Rottger, Todd Rottger, Justin Rottger, Adam Robertson, Nick Robertson and Josh Harris.

Mr. Rottger, 86, passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 3, 2018 at the Elsberry Health Care Center near Elsberry, MO.  Born October 14, 1931 in the Chain of Rocks Community near Old Monroe, he was the son of Frank Albert and Philomene Stork Rottger.  Everett pitched for the Philadelphia Athletics, a minor league baseball farm team.  He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.  Everett was united in marriage on April 27, 1955 in Old Monroe to Rose Mary Gnade.  This union was blessed with six children: Jeanette, Don, Rosalie, Marlene, Ron and Wayne.  Everett worked as a police officer for the Old Monroe Police Department for a number of years.  He then served as the Deputy Sheriff for Arlie Creech and Cliston Hilton.  Everett served as the Lincoln County Sheriff from 1980 until his retirement in 1996.

Everett was inducted into the St. Charles County Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame for his playing and managing with the Chain of Rocks and Old Monroe teams of the Hard Road League.  He was a member of the Retired Sheriff Association, Missouri Sheriff Association and Teamsters.  Everett was also a member of American Legion Post #420 in Old Monroe and of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Philomene Rottger; and his siblings: Marion, Calvin, Francis and Floyd Rottger, Viola Kersting, and a set of twins.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years, Rose Mary Rottger of Troy; their children: Jeanette Robertson and her husband, Dale, of Old Monroe, Don Rottger and his wife, Vivian, of Winfield, MO, Rosalie Mennemeier and her husband, Randy, of Moscow Mills, MO, Marlene Robinson and her husband, Ed, of Moscow Mills, Ron Rottger and his wife, Carlotta, of St. Charles, MO and Wayne Rottger and his wife, Alisha, of Troy; sixteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.  Everett also leaves many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 2:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church near Old Monroe under the direction of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home.  Memorials may be made to the Elsberry Health Care Center, American Legion Post #420, (or) St. Vincent De Paul at Old Monroe in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home , 3838 East Highway 47, P.O.
