Born July 6, 1915 in a home between Annada, MO and Dameron, MO, she was the only child of Arnott Reese and Bertie “Birt” Pauline Watts Smith. Doris lived her younger years with her parents in Annada, where they owned and operated a general store. She attended the one-room Annada Elementary School for eight years. She was among twelve members of the Paynesville High School class of 1933. Doris worked in the family general store until she was married.
Doris was united in marriage in 1936 to Ronald Yahnke. This union was blessed with one daughter, Sharon Kay. Doris was later married on December 1, 1944 to her childhood sweetheart, Harry Brown Reid, in Providence, RI where Harry was serving as a Navy Seabee. Doris worked as a pharmacy clerk in Wickford, RI from 1944-1945. After the conclusion of the Pacific War, Harry and Doris moved back to Annada in October, 1945. They farmed east of Annada until the Flood of 1973, after which they moved to Doris’ family farm just west of Annada on higher ground. Doris worked part-time as the Postmaster, replacing Catherine Ralston at the Annada Post Office. Doris continued to be a loving housewife and helping hand to Harry on the farm until his retirement in 1975. Harry and Doris were a keystone in the Annada community and had many dear and long lasting friends.
The Reids moved to Elsberry in 1988. They enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. After a prolonged illness, Harry passed away in 1995. Doris continued to live in the Elsberry home and manage the family farm in Annada. She was a member of the Annada Community Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnott and Birt Smith; her aunts and uncle: Bess Raybourn, Ada Finley, Linnie Barten, Nellie Halley, Lindon Watts and Floyd Watts; and her beloved husband of over 50 years, Harry Reid, who died March 27, 1995.
