Obituary of Edward Charles Hausgen
Funeral Services for Edward Charles Hausgen of Elsberry, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2015 at Star Hope Baptist Church near Elsberry. Rev. Roger Briggs, church pastor, Rev. Raymond Doussard, chaplain for Celtic Hospice and his grandson, Josh Hausgen will officiate with burial to follow in Star Hope Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Glen Bartlett, Eddie Hausgen, Dane Galloway, Andy Hausgen, Tyler Hausgen, Layton Bartlett, Bobby Mahurin and Josiah Brinkerhoff. Honorary pallbearers will be Josh Hausgen, Tommy Kinion, Gus Loness, Dr. Don Dettore, Jerry Johnson, Bob Copeland, Lew Retzer and Jimmy Jeans.
Edward, 90, passed away Monday morning, March 23, 2015 at his home. Born August 11, 1924 in the Apex community near Elsberry, he was the son of Frederick William and Bernice Irene Sheffler Hausgen. Edward was a 1942 graduate of Elsberry High School. He served his country in the United States Army from September 21, 1945 until he was honorably discharged on March 7, 1947 as a Radio Technician Fifth Grade. He was a member of the Armed Forces Network “AFN” in Germany. Edward was united in marriage on September 10, 1949 at Star Hope Baptist Church to Ida Frances McMahill. This union was blessed with three children: Irene Lee, Charles David and Frederick Gerald “Gerry”.
Edward worked for Motorola Corporation before he went to work at Dundee where he retired after 12 years. Edward then worked in Electrical Maintenance for Monsanto/MEMC, retiring on December 31, 1990 after 12 years of employment. An avid car enthusiast, Edward was a member of the Wills Sainte Claire Car Club and Kaiser-Frazier Owners Car Club. He was also a member of the Antique Radio Club and a Ham Radio Operator. Edward was a lifelong member of Star Hope Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Bernice Hausgen; three brothers: Frederick William Hausgen, who died in 1941, Richard Wallace Hausgen, who died in 2001 and Ernest Forrest Hausgen, who died in 2005; one sister, Nora Lucela Watts, who died in 2004; and his beloved wife of almost 65 years, Ida Frances Hausgen, who died August 18, 2014.
Survivors include one daughter, Irene Hausgen of Elsberry; two sons: David Hausgen and his wife, Janetta “Jay” of Elsberry and Gerry Hausgen and his wife, Kristina, of Batavia, OH; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren. Edward also leaves several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Memorials may be made to the Star Hope Scholarship Fund in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 S. 5th Street; Elsberry, MO 63343.
