I was saddened to hear of Clesta's passing. When I was a young trombonist in Troy my Dad recommended Clesta as an accompanist and she was wonderful.
I last saw her at a memorial concert for my Dad in Clarksville in '07 and was able to thank her. Her music made this world a happier place.

I have many fond memories of Clesta Penn but one really stands out. I was home from college and for some reason my mom and dad, J.O. & Margot Mudd, and I were in Clarksville for supper. Clesta was there (plus a whole lot of other folks) and we were eating at a big round table. There was a piano in the room and Clesta asked me if college fraternities still sang songs. I said yes and rattled off the first line of one. She had me to go to the piano with her and then I would sing the first line of a song and she would start playing. We sang songs late into the night and we never came up woth a song that she couldn't play just by hearing the first line. She was an amazing piano player.

I have many fond memories of Clesta. When I was very young my Mom would leave me with Clesta when she had a meeting or errands to run. Clesta always let me do things that Mom wouldn't. I could sneak sugar from the sugar bowl and tell her what I thought were dirty jokes. One time I used a crayon and drew on the porch columns at the house on 4th street and then realized that I was going to get into big trouble. Clesta saw the artwork and just laughed and called me "kid". Many times Clesta would come to the house for family gatherings or holidays and we would all end up around the piano requesting songs for Clesta to play as we sometimes sang along. Beautiful memories of a time gone by. I am confident that she is with Mom and the rest of our family members in the land beyond this one. Enjoy!

Clesta always looked forward to me bringing her cookies at chriatmas time from the masonic lodge. When I was president of NEMO Scottish Rite club she would come and bring a musical program for me.
I don't if you boys remember me as your scout master many years ago. Your dad was always a big help to me.
I will miss Clesta. May God bless you boys and your families....Don Bowers
