Obituary of Doris Ann Farmer

Funeral Services for Doris Ann Farmer of Elsberry, MO, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 28, 2013 at the Star Hope Baptist Church near Elsberry, MO. Rev. Allen Calkins, pastor of First Baptist Church in Gray Sumnmit, MO, will officiate. Burial will be in the Star Hope Cemetery near Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers will be Patrick Burns, Shawn Peronto, Carey Meyer Strykowski, Hadley Meyer, Jr., Matt Meyer, Jim Leathers and Gilbert Watts. Mrs. Farmer, 84, passed away Tuesday morning, October 22, 2013 the result of an accident at the junction of Highways B & 61 near Elsberry. Born May 6, 1929 on the family farm near Foley, MO, she was the daughter of Charles Thomas and Anna Belle Meyer Hines. A lifelong resident of eastern Lincoln County, she was a 1946 graduate of Elsberry High School. She was united in marriage on October 17, 1952 in Elsberry to Alfred Alexander Farmer. She was employed for a number of years as a secretary at the Gladney Ford Farm Implement dealership in Elsberry until it closed in the early 1960s. She then worked for over 30 years as the secretary/bookkeeper at Midwestern Veterinary Supply Company in Old Monroe, retiring in the mid 1990s. Doris Ann was a long-time member of the Star Hope Baptist Church near Elsberry. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Annie Hines; two brothers, Meyer Glendon Hines and William Derwood Hines; two sisters, Margaret Burns and Mary Jane Strykowski; and her beloved husband of 51 years, Al Farmer, who died December 23, 2003. Survivors include one nephew, Carey Meyer Strykowski and his wife, Debbie of Zeeland, MI; two nieces: Betty Burns and her husband, Patrick of O'Fallon, MO, and Linda Peronto and her husband, Shawn, of Hortonville, WI. She also leaves several cousins, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Memorials may be made to the Star Hope Baptist Church in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 South Fifth Street, Elsberry, MO 63343.
