Obituary of Richard LeRoy Simpson

Richard Simpson Funeral Services for Richard Simpson of Winfield, MO, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield, MO. Rev. Mike Ryan, pastor of the Winfield First Baptist Church, will officiate with burial in the Elsberry City Cemetery in Elsberry, MO. Serving as pallbearers will be Russell Simpson, Jeff McAllister, Bobby DeGeare, Steven Simpson, Michael Chiodini, Scott Hubbard and David Simpson. Mr. Simpson, 74, passed away Tuesday afternoon, October 9, 2012 at St. Joseph Health Center in St. Charles, MO. Born June 14, 1938 in the Snow Hill community in central Lincoln County, MO, he was the son of Basil Foster and Gladys May Day Simpson. He was united in marriage on November 1, 1957 in Elsberry to Mildred Lucille Shafer. This union was blessed with four children: Debbie, Richard Wm., Julie and Russell. He was self-employed for many years as a carpenter in residential construction through Richard Simpson Construction Company, retiring in 2006. He was preceded in death by his parents, Basil and Gladys Simpson; two sisters: Loretta Cherry and Lois Hale; and one son, Richard Wm. Simpson in 1984. Survivors include his beloved wife of almost 55 years, Mildred Simpson of Winfield; one son, Russell Lee Simpson and his wife, Kim, of Winfield; two daughters: Debbie Hubbard and her husband, John, of Winfield, and Julie Myer and her husband, Russell, of Wright City, MO; fourteen grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He also leaves two sisters: Betty Gravens and her husband, Robert, of Del Ray Beach, FL, and Neva Barton and her husband, Clifford, of Crown Point, IN; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 12, 2012 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
