Obituary of Leonard Harlan Scherrer

Leonard Harlan Scherrer, Jr. Funeral Services for Leonard Harlan Scherrer, Jr. of Elsberry, MO, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 15, 2012 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Brother Greg Pflasterer, of the Elsberry First Baptist Church, will officiate with burial in The Watts Family Cemetery near Louisiana, MO. Serving as pallbearers will be Niles Leverington, Roy Turnbull, Gilbert Riffle, Donnie Kinsler, William "Buck" Baker, Justin Scherrer, Robbie Mills and Paul Tobias; and honorary pallbearer, Alfred McClelland. Mr. Scherrer, 87, passed away Wednesday evening, September 12, 2012 at the Elsberry Health Care Center near Elsberry. Born July 4, 1925 in Mount Sterling, IL, he was the son of Leonard Harlan and Esther Jones Scherrer, Sr. He was united in marriage in June 1988 in Elsberry to Julia Ann "Judy" Scherrer. He worked for many years as a mechanic for the Missouri Department of Transportation. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Esther Scherrer, Sr.; one daughter, Tina Simpson; one sister, Marguerite Johnson; and his beloved wife of 19 years, Judy Scherrer who died on October 3, 2007. Survivors include one son, Harlan Scherrer of Elsberry; one step-daughter, Linda Curtis and her husband, Tracy, of Livingston, IL; two step-sons: Chris Brinkman and his wife, Barb, of Mount Zion, IL, and Dennis Brinkman and his wife, Holly, of Auburn, IL; two grandchildren: Justin Scherrer and his wife, Christina, and Jodie Baker and her husband, William "Buck"; three great-grandchildren: Cole Scherrer, Bailey Wendt and Leah Baker; nine step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
