Obituary of Louis Otis Hunt

Rev. Louis Otis Hunt Funeral Services for Rev. Louis Otis Hunt of Winfield, MO, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Winfield. Rev. Mike Ryan, church pastor and Rev. Ken Gray of Piedmont, MO will officiate. Rev. Hunt, 70, passed away Monday night February 27, 2012 at Lincoln County Medical Center in Troy, MO. Born April 25, 1941 in Crittenden County, Kentucky, he was the son of Lewis Ewing and Wilma Dace Hunt. He graduated high school in Rolla, MO. Rev. Hunt served his country in the United States Air Force from October 1, 1959 until being honorably discharged as an Airman 1st Class on September 30, 1963. He was united in marriage on July 20, 1985 in Winfield to Peggy Sue Gifford. Their home was blessed with five children: Tony, Charlie, Nick, Amanda and Stephanie. Early in his ministry, Rev. Hunt served as the Associate Pastor for New Salem Baptist Church. He then served as Pastor of Sulphur Lick Baptist Church for 19 years, retiring in 2009. He also served seven years for the Jail Ministry of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department. He was most recently serving for the Joy Baptist Mission in Elsberry, MO, Chaplain for the Lincoln County Medical Center and providing ministries at several Lincoln County nursing homes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Wilma Hunt; one son, Charlie Hunt in 2006; one brother, Sylvan Hunt; and two sisters: Anna Heavin and her husband, Joe and Louise Mace. Survivors include his beloved wife of 26 years, Peggy Hunt of Winfield; two sons: Tony Hunt and his wife, Shelly, of Winfield and Nick Schmitt and his wife, Beth, of West Plains, MO; two daughters: Amanda Bray and her husband, Trevor, of O'Fallon, MO and Stephanie Hunt of Winfield; two daughters-in-law: Melissa Hunt of Garden City, MO and Heather Dammann of Perryville, MO; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, James Hunt and his wife, Rita, of Norman, OK; three sisters: Ethel Duren and her husband, Bill of Norman, Oklahoma; Sarah Reese and her husband, Ron, of Edgar Springs, MO and Betty Hudson and her husband, Stanley, of Licking, MO; one brother-in-law, B.L. Mace of Edgar Springs, MO; one sister-in-law, Mary Hunt of Lennox, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield.
