Obituary of Melissa F. Calvin

Melissa Francis Vaughn Calvin Funeral services for Melissa Francis Vaughn Calvin of Eolia, MO, formerly of Foley, MO will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2008 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield, MO. Rev. Sammy Lorton, pastor of the Whiteside Holiness Church, will officiate with burial in Bethany Cemetery near Foley. Serving as pallbearers will be Rich Calvin, Daniel Calvin, Rick Mills, Dick Atchley, Jim Atchley and Billy Danz. Mrs. Calvin, 99, passed away late Sunday evening, March 9, 2008 at her daughter's residence in Eolia. Born June 10, 1908 in Foley, she was the daughter of James Robert and Hattie Presley Vaughn. She was united in marriage on October 14, 1925 in Elsberry, MO to Earl Ellis Calvin. This union was blessed with two children, Gloria Fay and George Ellis. Mrs. Calvin worked for several years as a seamstress for Wells-Lamont Glove Factory in Elsberry, MO. She was a member of the Foley Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Robert and Hattie Vaughn; one son George Ellis Calvin; one brother, Hallie Vaughn; six sisters: Delcie Vaughn, Glady Talbot, Mary Atchley, Alberta Hickman, Margie Hostler and Helena Robinson; and her beloved husband of 60 years, Earl Calvin, who died July 9, 1986. Survivors include one daughter, Gloria Gillean and her husband, Milton, of Eolia; two grandchildren: Tom Calvin and his wife, Donna, of Winfield, MO, and Rita Mills of Paso Robles, CA, eight great-grandchildren, several great, great-grandchildren. She also leaves one brother-in-law, Joseph Hickman; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
