Obituary of Estel G. Griffaw

Estel Germaine Griffaw Funeral services for Estel Germaine Griffaw of Elsberry, MO were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 18, 2007 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry, MO. Father Raymond Hager of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elsberry, MO, officiated the service. Cremation will follow the services. Mrs. Griffaw, 77, died Tuesday evening, May 15, 2007 at her home in Elsberry, MO. Born July 14, 1926 in St. Louis, MO, she was the daughter of Oliver and Effie Nezbit Schoreck. She was united in marriage on October 30, 1947 in Salem, IL to Charles Griffaw, Jr. This union was blessed with eight children: Scherry, Germaine, Wanda, Charlie, Theresa, Elizabeth, Mary Jane and Julie. She was employed for many years as a cook and then later as a nurses aide. She was an avid gardener. She loved growing roses and other flowers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Effie Schoreck; one daughter, Theresa Griffaw; and her beloved husband of 55 years, Charles Griffaw, Jr., who died January 11, 2003. Survivors include one son, Charlie Griffaw and his wife, Judy, of Winfield, MO; six daughters: Scherry Griffaw of Austin, TX, Germaine Jeffrey and her husband, Paul, of Louisville, KY, Wanda Piechoinski and her husband, Ray, of Elsberry, MO, Elizabeth Dunn of Vandalia, IL, Mary Jane Jayroe and her husband, Calvin, of Austin, TX, and Julie Huffman of Elsberry, MO; thirty-two grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren. She also leaves three brothers: Richard Schoreck of Kimmundy, IL, James Schoreck of FL, and Terrance Schoreck of MS; two sisters: Patsy Haywood of Rector, AR, and Michelle Teets of New Orleans, LA; several nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, other relatives, and many friends. Visitation was held from 9:00 a.m. until time of service, Friday, May 18, 2007 Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Memorials may be made to the Family of Estel G.
