Carter-Ricks Funeral Homes Phone 573-898-2181 / Fax 573-898-3148 Newspaper Notice of Death Eva Arlene Gifford Funeral services for Eva Arlene Gifford of Winfield, MO, were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 3, 2007 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield. Rev. Louis Hunt, pastor of Sulphur Lick Baptist Church near Winfield, officiated with burial in New Salem Cemetery near Winfield. Serving as pallbearers were Doug Gifford, Rhonda Schulte, B.J. Thoelke, Ben Gifford, Nick Schmitt and Tom Gifford. Honorary pallbearers were David Gifford, Rachel Bauer, Ramona Miles, Bob Gifford, Jimmy Gifford, Brian Gifford, Amy Pyle, Lisa Walcott, Greg Thoelke, Heather Thoelke, Sara Snider, Morgan Gifford, Amanda Bray, Stephanie Hunt and Tony Hunt. Mrs. Gifford, 90, died late Wednesday evening, January 31, 2007 at St. Joseph Health Center in St. Charles, MO. Born September 10, 1916 in Panora, IA, she was the daughter of William and Iva Whitcomb Huitt. She was a 1934 graduate of Panora High School in Panora, IA. She also attended Tabor Junior College in Tabor, IA. She was united in marriage on November 2, 1939 in Cherokee, IA to George Isaac Gifford. This union was blessed with six children: Jerrold, James, George, William, Sandra and Peggy. She was a member of the Sulphur Lick Baptist Church, Lincoln County Hospital Auxiliary and Brushy Fork Extension Club. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Iva Huitt; one son, James Leroy Gifford, who died January 30, 2003; two grandsons: Andrew Gifford and Charlie Hunt; three brothers: Gaylord Huitt, Robert Huitt and Bud Huitt; one sister, Wilma Bacon; and her beloved husband of 41 years, George Gifford, who died February 4, 1981. Survivors include three sons: Jerrold Gifford and his wife, Pat, of Winfield, MO, George Gifford and his wife, Charlene, of Moscow Mills, MO, and William "Bill" Gifford and his wife, Yvonne, of Ballwin, MO; two daughters: Sandra Thoelke and her husband, Cary, of Keytesville, MO and Peggy Hunt and her husband, Rev. Louis Hunt, of Winfield, MO; and one daughter-in-law, Rita Gifford of Old Monroe. She also leaves twenty-one grandchildren; forty-one great-grandchildren; three great, great-grandchildren; two sisters: Jean Throckmorton of Omaha, NE and Marge VanCamp and her husband, Bob, of Isabella, MO; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Visitation was held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 2, 2007 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
