Carter-Ricks Funeral Homes Phone 573-898-2181 / Fax 573-898-3148 Newspaper Notice of Death Velma Louise Magruder Funeral services for Velma Lois Magruder Foley, MO, were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at New Salem Baptist Church near Winfield, MO. Rev. Richard Turnbull of Winfield, MO, officiated with burial in New Salem Baptist Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Bill Hurt, Walter Barnes, Tom Romano, Christopher Romano, Mike O'Neill and Rick Hurt. Mrs. Magruder, 82, died Saturday afternoon, November 11, 2006 at the home of her daughter near Foley. Born January 22, 1924 near Foley, she was the daughter of Joshua Jonah "Jack" and Alta Mae Turnbull Langford. She was united in marriage on July 11, 1941 in St. Louis, MO to Thomas Alva Magruder. This union was blessed with two daughters, Gail and Pamela. She was a member of the New Salem Baptist Church near Winfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Alta Mae Langford; one sister, Elisabeth Abbott; and her beloved husband of 35 years, Tom Magruder, who died June 28, 1977. Survivors include her daughters: Gail Magruder of St. Charles, MO, and Pam Romano and her special friend, Roger Summers of Foley; and two grandsons: Tom Romano of O'Fallon, MO, and Christopher Romano also of O'Fallon. She also leaves a nephew, Michael O'Neill and his wife, Becky of Des Peres, MO, cousins, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 13, 2006 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
