Funeral services for Ernest Forrest "Ernie" Hausgen of Elsberry, MO were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 21, 2005 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Bob Norvel officiated with burial in Star Hope Cemetery near Elsberry, MO. Serving as pallbearers were Jim Ross, Marty Green, Sam Fuller, John Schaffer, John Andrews and Bobby Green. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Talbot, Mike Hartley, Jim Jeans, Hugh K. Steavenson, Larry Carter and Bill Rountree. "Shop Pups" were Joe Talbot, Danny Kinsler, Steve Sharpe, Tom McLeod, Ronnie Robinson and Bobby Green.
Mr. Hausgen, 70, died Thursday afternoon, November 17, 2005 at his residence near Elsberry, MO. Born May 30, 1935 in rural Lincoln County, near Elsberry, MO, he was the son of the late Frederick William and Bernice Irene (nee Sheffler) Hausgen. A lifelong resident of Lincoln County, he was a 1953 graduate of Elsberry High School. He served active duty in the United States Army from October 1956 until October 1958; serving in the United States Army National Guard until being honorably discharged on September 30, 1962. He was united in marriage on December 29, 1956 at the New Hope Baptist Church near Elsberry, MO to Margia Moneta Hardin Ash. During the 1960s he worked as a mechanic for Huck Schuster and later opened his own shop in Elsberry. In the early 1970s he taught small engines at the Pike/Lincoln Vocational School near Eolia. He was employed as the Service Manager for several years at Gebhardt Ford in Elsberry during the 1970s. He was self-employed for many years as an auto mechanic and handy-man (Ernie Hausgen Repair), until semi-retiring in 2000. Mr. Hausgen was a member of the New Hope Masonic Lodge #199, AF&AM; the Scottish Rite Valley of St. Louis; and the NEMO Scottish Rite Club. He was also a member of the Star Hope Baptist Church near Elsberry.
Besides his parents, Frederick and Bernice Hausgen, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Frederick William Hausgen, who died in 1941, and Richard Wallace Hausgen, who died in 2001; and one sister, Nora Lucela Watts, who died November 28, 2004.
Survivors include his beloved wife of almost 49 years, Margia Hausgen of Elsberry; one son, Frederick Hausgen and his wife, Carolyn, of O'Fallon, MO; one daughter, Neta Halbrook and her husband, Gary, of Elsberry; six grandchildren: Aaron Lee Kinsler and his wife, Karen, of Elsberry, Matthew Michael Kinsler and his wife, Kandi, of Elsberry, Doneta Marie Kinsler, Tiffany Jean Kinsler, Karlie Dyan Hausgen and Frederick William Hausgen, Jr.; and three great-grandchildren.. He also leaves one brother, Edward Hausgen and his wife, Ida, of Elsberry; one brother-in-law, LaVerne Watts of Elsberry; one sister-in-law, Jesse Hausgen of Elsberry; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation was held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, November 20, 2005 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. A Masonic Memorial Service was held during the visitation at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Joseph R. Palmer Family Memorial Library in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 South Fifth Street, Elsberry, MO 63343.
