Obituary of Mae Porter

Mae E. Porter Funeral services for Mae E. Porter of Winfield, MO, were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield. Rev. Mike Ryan, pastor of the Winfield First Baptist Church, officiated with burial in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Serving as pallbearers were Jason Porter, Jared Loch, Frank Ellis, Chad Ellis, Beau McFarlin, John Dougherty and David White. Mrs. Porter, 91, passed away Saturday evening, June 11, 2005 at the Lincoln County Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Troy, MO. Born July 10, 1913 in Modoc, IL, she was the daughter of the late Ed and Zoe Labrye Godier. Her mother died shortly after her birth, and she was raised by her maternal grandparents and her aunts. As a young woman, she worked at Brown Shoe Company in St. Louis. She was united in marriage on June 26, 1948 in St. Louis, MO to Newman "Bud" Porter. During the early 1940s, she sang on a live radio show called "Cousin Emmy and Her Kinfolk" on KMOX Radio in St. Louis. She later worked for several years as a cafeteria server at Mercantile Bank in St. Louis. The Porters lived in north St. Louis for almost four decades before moving to Fulton, MO in 1982. While in Fulton, Mrs. Porter volunteered at the Serve Center, a senior citizens center. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Nova Dufrenne and Bessie Sipole; and her beloved husband of 36 years, Newman "Bud" Porter in 1984. Survivors include one son, Bruce Newman Porter and his wife, Janet, of Winfield; and two daughters: Terry Ellen McFarlin and her partner, Linda Mobley, of Rosenberg, TX, and Linda Burkhart and her husband, Ken, of Branson, MO. She also leaves nine grandchildren: Jamie White and her husband, David, Robin McFarlin and her partner, Erica Gulledge, and Beau McFarlin, all of Cambria, IL, Jason Porter and his wife, Kim, of Old Monroe, MO, Shannon Porter and her fianc�, Jared Loch, of Troy, Tamara Dougherty and her husband, John, of Fulton, Frank Ellis and his wife, Holly, of Troy, Chad Ellis and his wife, Darla, of Williamsburg, MO, and Crystal Apple of Branson; sixteen great-grandchildren: Kayla and Allie White, Travis Milewski, Kyle and Brett Wojciechowski, Sierra, Jessa and Ava Grace McFarlin, Hayden Porter, Trevor and Logan Dougherty, Kailey and Lucas Ellis and Jorden, Zoe and Bethani Ellis; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 9:00 a.m. until time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
