Obituary of Marcella Whitehead

Marcella Whitehead Funeral services for Marcella Whitehead of Elsberry, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2005 at the Elsberry United Methodist Church in Elsberry. Rev. Michael Lockhart, church pastor, will officiate with burial in the Elsberry City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Joey Phillips, Jon Phillips, Roy Whitehead, Steven Sharpe, Scott Mills, Billy Lee Collins and Joshua Phillips. Mrs. Whitehead, 63, passed away Sunday afternoon, May 29, 2005 at her home in Elsberry. Born August 7, 1941 in Elsberry, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Betty Blankenship Collins. She was united in marriage on December 19, 1959 in Elsberry to James Anson Whitehead. Mr. & Mrs. Whitehead owned and operated Whitehead's Restaurant in Elsberry for several years, retiring in 1990. She was an avid sportswoman and fan, she played co-ed softball and pitched horseshoes for many years. She was especially fond of the St. Louis Cardinals. She also enjoyed many seasons with the Wednesday bowling league at O'Fallon Bowl. Besides her parents, Roy and Betty Collins, she was preceded in death by one brother, LeRoy Collins, Jr.; one sister, Dorothy Sharpe; and one grandson, Jarod Phillips who died on March 12, 2005. Survivors include her beloved husband of 45 years, Jim Whitehead of Elsberry; two sons: Kirk Lee Whitehead of Dade City, FL, and James Kevin Whitehead and his wife, Mary, of Elsberry; one daughter, Kelly Lynn Phillips and her husband, Rick, of Elsberry; six grandchildren: Kimmie, Katie and Roy Patrick Whitehead, and Joey, Jon and Josh Phillips, all of Elsberry; and one great-granddaughter, Taylor Jane Phillips of Elsberry. She also leaves one sister, Peggy Wheadon of Elsberry; several in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday June 1, 2005 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
