Obituary of Virginia Reed

Virginia Clemma Reed Funeral services for Virginia C. Reed of Winfield, Missouri will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at Ridge Road Baptist Church near Troy, MO. Rev. Mark Self, former pastor at Ridge Road Baptist Church, will officiate with burial in Whispering Winds Cemetery near Winfield. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons: John Reed, Justin Reed, Joel Reed, Jordan Reed, James Reed, Joseph Reed, Shaun Farmer and Brian Farmer. Mrs. Reed, 81, died early Saturday morning, February 12, 2005 at Lincoln County Medical Center in Troy. Born January 13, 1924 in Venice, IL, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Myrtle Matthews Robbs. She was united in marriage on January 17, 1942 in Higdon, MO near Fredericktown, to John Clifford Reed. A long-time member of the Ridge Road Baptist Church near Troy, Mrs. Reed served as a greeter for many years. She was a G. A. youth leader for several years, and served as Director for the Women's Missionary Union through her church. Mr. and Mrs. Reed were foster parents for 12 years for the Missouri Baptist Children's Home in St. Louis. During their years as foster parents, they welcomed more than 75 babies into their home. Besides her parents, Ernest and Myrtle Robbs, she was preceded in death by one brother, John Robbs. Survivors include her beloved husband of 63 years, Clifford Reed, of Winfield; one son, Kevin Reed and his wife, Sandra, of Winfield; one daughter, Sharon Caron and her husband, James, of Gladstone, MI; thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She also leaves two brothers: Thomas Robbs and his wife, Juanita, of Fairview Heights, IL, and Ernie Robbs and his wife, Joy, of West Des Moines, IA; three sisters: Helen McCormack of Cape Girardeau, MO, Doris Eaves and her husband, Ken, of Overland, MO, and Mary Northcutt and her husband, Marshall, of Imperial, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
