Obituary of Herman Schuster

Herman "Huck" Schuster Funeral services for Herman "Huck" Schuster of Elsberry, MO were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 14, 2005 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Richard Pillers, pastor of the Elsberry Assembly of God Church, officiated with burial in Star Hope Cemetery near Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers were Ronnie Gilmore, Bill Rockwell, Jim Henry, Larry Vaughn, Tommy Hunter and Dale Hurley; honorary pallbearer was Pokey Hill. Mr. Schuster, 88, died Tuesday night, January 11, 2005 at the home of his daughter in Elsberry, MO. Born May 17, 1916 in Bellflower, MO, he was the son of the late Frederick Herman and Mollie Mance McNamara Schuster. He was united in marriage on January 13, 1939 in Elsberry to Esther Mae Watson. He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II from November 21, 1944 until September 5, 1946 when he was honorably discharged as a Corporal. He was awarded the American Theater Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Schuster was employed for a number of years as a mechanic and was also employed at Crown Homes in St. Peters, MO for seven years. He was an avid fisherman, storyteller, and pitch player. He was a lifetime member and past commander of the American Legion Post #226 in Elsberry. He was a former member of the Elsberry Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Carpenters Union in St. Louis, MO, and the Elsberry Assembly of God Church. Besides his parents, Frederick and Mollie Schuster, he was preceded in death by eleven half brothers and sisters; one brother, Ben Schuster; an infant son, Herman F. Schuster, Jr., who died in 1947; and his beloved wife of 56 years, Esther Schuster, who died October 21, 1995. Survivors include his daughter, Bonnie Jo Kindred and her husband, Bob, of Elsberry; one grandson, Brant Kindred of St. Louis, MO, and one granddaughter, Brandy Kindred, also of St. Louis. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends including a special niece, JoAnne Singletary of Pearl River, LA; and a special nephew, Gene Schuster of Elsberry. Visitation was held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 13, 2005 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
