Obituary of Walter Ogden
Walter Guy Ogden
Funeral services for Walter Guy Ogden of Elsberry, MO were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 10, 2005 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Raymond Doussard, chaplain for AmHeart Hospice, officiated with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery in Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers were Wayne Tillotson, Harry Gene Ogden, Curtis Ogden, John Noble, Jeff Brown, Paul Seaman, and Bob Fielder
Mr. Ogden, 88, died Thursday night, January 6, 2005 at his home in Elsberry. Born August 29, 1916 near the Lincoln/Pike County Line, he was the son of the late George Ernest and Annie Virginia Hawkins Ogden. He was united in marriage on June 2, 1945 in St. Louis, MO to Gladys Marie Moll. She preceded him in death in 1957. He was married again on October 18, 1958 in Hannibal, MO to Martha Orpah Pratt. A farmer most of his life, he was also employed for a number of years as a truck driver. He was a 15 year sponsor of the U.S. Shooting Team in the U.S. Olympics. He helped the police and the Lincoln County Sheriffs Department. He was a member of the NRA, having paid 67 annual memberships. He was also a member of the Lincoln County Old Threshers, the Elsberry Senior Center, and the Elsberry First Baptist Church.
Besides his parents, George and Annie Ogden, and his first wife, Gladys Ogden, he was preceded in death by one sister, Rose Francis Shamboc; and his second wife, Martha Ogden, who died in 1998.
Survivors include one son, Walter Charles Ogden and his wife, Darlene, of Yemassee, SC; two daughters: Virginia Hale of Elsberry, and Catherine Rea and her husband, Leonard, of Chesterfield, MO; one step-daughter, Martha Lou Hills and her husband, George, of Campton, IL; several grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He also leaves two brothers: Harry Ogden and his wife, Gail, of Elsberry, and Ernest Ogden and his wife, Kathy, also of Elsberry; one sister, Lucy Noble of Elsberry; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 9, 2005 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Memorials may be made to AmHeart Hospice or the Elsberry Senior Center in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 South Fifth Street, Elsberry, MO 63343.
