Obituary of James Chandler

James L. Chandler Funeral services for James Lester Chandler of Elsberry, MO were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at Carter Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Bob Norvel, pastor of the Annada Christian Church, officiated with burial in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Mr. Chandler, 54, died Saturday morning, November 27, 2004 at St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake Saint Louis, MO. Born March 18, 1950 in Sikeston, MO, he was the son of the late Grover and Virginia Jackman Chandler. He served his country during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army from April 3, 1967 until he was honorably discharged on June 28, 1970. He was stationed in Vietnam from May 31, 1969 until April 10, 1970. He was united in marriage on March 12, 1979 in St. Louis, MO to Janice Irene Hardwick. He was employed for many years in residential construction. Mr. & Mrs. Chandler moved from St. Louis to the Elsberry area about eight years ago. Besides his parents, Grover and Virginia Chandler, he was preceded in death by one step-brother, Lindell Deal in January, 2004. Survivors include his beloved wife of 25 years, Janice Chandler of Elsberry; one son, Anthony Scott Chandler and his wife, Pamela, of Elsberry; two daughters: Dawn Christine Chandler of Los Angeles, CA and Sharon Kay Hardwick of Elsberry; and eight grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, Billy Smithwick of Gordonsville, VA; two sisters: Linda Webber and her husband, Bob, of Powhatan, VA, and Brenda Bowman and her husband, Ronnie, of Unionville, VA; three step-brothers and their wives: Freeman and Phyllis Deal of House Springs, MO, Robert and Elaine Deal of Festus, MO, and Delbert and Claudia Deal of Warrenton, MO; two step-sisters: Elvie Lall of Florissant, MO, and Alie Mae Storie of Michigan; one sister-in-law, Linda (Mrs. Lindell) Deal of Barnhart, MO; several in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 29, 2004 at Carter Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
