Obituary of Elmer Dorrough

Elmer Dorrough Funeral services for Elmer Dorrough of Center, MO, formerly of Foley and Winfield, MO were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 14, 2004 at Carter Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield. Rev. Leo Roberson, pastor of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Bland, MO, officiated with burial in Whispering Winds Cemetery near Winfield. Serving as pallbearers were Sammy Curt Dorrough, Gene Henry Adams, Keith Daniel Rose, John Matthew Rollins, Joshua Dale Jordan and Cody James Mason. Mr. Dorrough, 68, died Monday evening, October 11, 2004 at his home near Center. Born November 4, 1935 in a place called Greasy Valley near Paris, AR, he was one of fifteen children born to Buford Clifton and Ollie Ola Scrivner Dorrough. He was united in marriage on April 3, 1954 in Paris, AR to Myrtle Ruth Lovelace. He was employed for many years as a carpenter for McCarthy Construction Co. retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Carpenter's Local #1875 in Winfield. He was also a member of the Winfield Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Buford and Ollie Dorrough; three brothers: Clifford Dorrough, B.C. Dorrough and Donald Dorrough; and one sister, Dorothy Dorrough who died as an infant. Survivors include his beloved wife of 50 years, Ruth Dorrough of Center; one son, Duane Dorrough and his wife, Susan, of Center; four daughters: Sherry Mehrle and her husband, Larry, of Winfield, Belinda Tipton and her husband, Dewayne, of New London, MO, Lisa Jordan and her husband, Vernon, of Winfield, and Angela Dodson of Vandalia, MO; thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. He also leaves six brothers: Bill Dorrough and his wife, Jeanette, of Midway, AR, Gerald Dorrough and his wife, Rae Jean, of Bland, MO, his twin brother, Selmer "Sam" Dorrough and his wife, Julia, of Paris, AR, Raymond Dorrough also of Paris, AR, Albert "Shorty" Dorrough and his wife, Dianne, of Ormond Beach, FL, and Lindel Dorrough and his wife, Paulette, of Fort Smith, AR; four sisters: LaVerne Patterson of Lavaca, AR, Gail Williams and her husband, Roy, of Charleston, AR, Sue Peterson of Clarksville, AR, and Ann McCarty and her husband, Gary, of Ratcliff, AR; many, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at Carter Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
