Webster Charles Johnson Funeral services for Webster Charles "Babe" Johnson of Winfield, MO were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 25, 2004 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield, MO. Rev. Richard Turnbull, pastor of Foley Baptist Church, officiated with burial in Highland Prairie Cemetery near Old Monroe, MO. Mr. Johnson, 89, died Wednesday afternoon, September 22, 2004 at Troy Manor in Troy, MO. Born October 5, 1914 in St. Louis, MO, he was the son of the late Carl Walter and Anna Stermel Johnson. He was united in marriage on December 16, 1933 in St. Louis to Ermydine Naomi Horn. He was employed for a number of years as a welder for Moloney Electric, retiring in 1984. In his spare time, he was an avid baseball player and enjoyed golf. Mr. Johnson played in and managed hardroad baseball leagues in St. Louis, St. Charles, and Old Monroe for many years. He was also a little league baseball coach in Old Monroe, MO. He was inducted into the Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in 1985 and inducted into the St. Charles Sports Hall of Fame in 1989. Besides his parents, Carl and Anna Johnson, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Pete Johnson and Woody Johnson; one sister, Marie Thoman; and his beloved wife, Ermydine Johnson, who died August 10, 1996. Survivors include one son: Gary Charles Johnson and his wife, Judy, of Winfield; one daughter, Patricia Sue Halliburton and her husband, Richard, of Washington, IA; 3 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 24, 2004 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
