When Lucile was a young girl her family moved a lot and she lived in Nebraska, North and South Dakota and graduated from Paynesville High School in 1926. She taught school for several years in one room school houses such as Sand Ridge and Briar Ridge. She was always a hard worker. She worked at Wells Lamont Glove Factory in Elsberry during the depression for $1.25 a day. When on the farm, she worked along side of her husband with the livestock and crops. One summer she raised and dressed 1200 frying chickens for sale in Elsberry. She and her husband also milked cows and had a milk route in Elsberry. On March 23, shortly after her 90th birthday, she fell at her home and broke her hip. She has then lived at Elsberry Health Care Center in Elsberry for the last 6 years. Her family and her God were the most important things in her life. She joined the Elsberry United Methodist Church in Elsberry as a young girl. She served her church well as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday school teacher, and president of the Women's Society. When she moved to the farm with her daughter and son-in-law, she mover her membership to Smith Chapel Church. When she was 75 years old, she decided to join Ramsey Creek Baptist where most of her family attended. She was baptized in the Baptist Faith and served there as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher of the Senior Adult Class until failing health caused her to give up these positions. At age 65, she took some adult art classes and made many paintings. She then started making hand-sewn quilts for different people until she went into the nursing home. She made over 200 quilts; the last two or three being auctioned at the Strawberry Festival at the Baptist Children's Home. She was a member of the Elsberry Garden Club and a charter member of the Raintree Art Guild in Clarksville. She is at home with her God with eternal peace and no more pain.
