Obituary of Evelyn Moore

Evelyn Gertrude Moore Gravesides services for Evelyn Gertrude Moore of Elsberry, MO were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 1, 2004 at Old Chariton Cemetery in Callao, MO. Serving as pallbearers were her grandsons. Mrs. Moore, 87, died Thursday afternoon, July 29, 2004 at Elsberry Health Care Center near Elsberry. Born February 2, 1917 and raised in the small rural community of Callao, MO, she was the daughter of the late James Victor and Minnie Blanche Phipps Ford. She was united in marriage on July 11, 1936 in Macon, MO to Harold Austin Moore. To this union four children were born: Ray, Carol, Don and Mike. In 1956, she moved with her husband and family to the Elsberry community. In 1970, Mrs. Moore began working for the Lincoln County R-II School District in Elsberry in food service. She also worked for a small catering service until her retirement in 1985. She was a member of the Old Chariton Baptist Church in Callao. Besides her parents, James and Minnie Ford, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Cecil Ford and Durwood Ford; one sister, Lucille Seward; one son, Harold Ray Moore, who died in July 2003; and her beloved husband of 46 years, Harold A. Moore, who died in May 1982. Survivors include three children: Carol F. Leckbee of Elsberry, Donald G. Moore, also of Elsberry, and Michael W. Moore and his wife, Carol, of Warrenton, MO; 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2004 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
