Obituary of John Wood

John Edward Wood Funeral services for John Edward Wood of Elsberry, MO were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2004 at Elsberry First Christian Church in Elsberry. Rev. Connie Atchley, church pastor, officiated with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery in Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers were Sonny Taylor, A.J. Wyatt, Bob Suddarth, Bobby Zimmerman, Greg Bufford, Delores Bufford, and Ronnie Vaughn. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Shipman, Jose Berroa, Winston Bailey, Pesky Bueneman, Larry Vaughn, Robert Watts, and Duke Bufford. Mr. Wood, 68, died Thursday afternoon, July 15, 2004 at Crossroads Regional Medical Center in Wentzville, MO. Born May 27, 1936 in Bethany, WV, he was the son of the late Guy and Crystal Lee Walden Wood. He was united in marriage on August 23, 1958 in Elsberry to Elizabeth Jane "Betty" Milson. He was employed for 40 years as a tool and parts specialist for McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft Manufacturing, retiring on February 28, 1997. He was a member of the Machinist Union District 837-B in St. Louis, MO, the Elsberry Senior Citizens and the Elsberry First Christian Church. Mr. Wood was preceded in death by his father, Guy Wood; and his mother, Crystal Lee Bufford. Survivors include his beloved wife of almost 46 years, Betty Wood of Elsberry; and one daughter, Sherri Jane Wood also of Elsberry. He also leaves one brother, Greg Bufford and his wife, Delores, of Elsberry; one step-brother, James T. "Duke" Bufford and his wife, Bonnie, of Ratcliff, KY; one step-sister, Edith Williamson and her husband, Harold, of Farmersville, IL several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Saturday, July 17, 2004 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
