Obituary of Hazel Wood

Hazel Violet Wood Funeral services for Hazel Violet Wood of Elsberry, MO were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 2, 2004 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Connie Atchley, pastor of the Elsberry First Christian Church, officiated with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery in Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers were Chris Opperman, Jeffrey Burris, Michael Wood, James Wallace, and Rick Wallace. Mrs. Wood, 84, died Wednesday morning, June 30, 2004 at her home in Elsberry. Born February 1, 1920 in St. Louis, MO, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Spraggon and Louise Harriett Menafee Parker. She was united in marriage on January 23, 1937 in St. Louis to Charles Lee Wood. Besides her parents, Alfred and Louise Parker, she was preceded in death by one brother, Al Parker; one sister, Ruth Williams; one daughter, Sandra Wood, who died as an infant; and her beloved husband, Charles Wood, who died December 12, 1978. Survivors include four sons: Richard Wood and his wife, Roma, of Richview, IL, Frank Wood of Elsberry, Jesse Wood of Warrenton, MO, and Al Wood and his wife, Sandy, of Florissant, MO; three daughters: Cheri Buckner and her husband, Jerry, of Maryland Heights, MO, Mary Ellen Parker of Harrison, AR, and Cathy Wallace and her husband, Rick, of Elsberry; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. She also leaves one brother, Clarence Parker and his wife, Joyce, of Rosedale, CA; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday, July 2, 2004 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
