Obituary of Alvin Eugene Murray

Alvin Eugene "Gene" Murray Funeral Services for Alvin Eugene "Gene" Murray of Elsberry, MO will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Elsberry. Rev. Paul Garven, church pastor, will officiate with burial in the Elsberry City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Christopher Walls, Cyril Heintzelman, Wade Johnson and Travis Johnson. Mr. Murray, 92, passed away Sunday afternoon, November 30, 2014 at his home near Elsberry. Born September 30, 1922 in Doniphan, MO, he was the son of Louis and Emma Suvillan Murray. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corp in the European Theater from September 26, 1942 until September 13, 1945; and from May 17, 1946 until February 22, 1947. He re-enlisted again in the Army Air Corp and was honorably discharge on December 23, 1949. He was united in marriage on July 11, 1947 in St. Louis, MO to Velma Imogene Bollinger. This union was blessed with one daughter, Sherry Rowena. Gene was employed as an aircraft mechanic at McDonnell-Douglas (now Boeing) in St. Louis, MO for many years, retiring in September 1981. He was a retired member of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers, Local #837 in St. Louis. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #226 in Elsberry. He was a longtime member of the Elsberry United Methodist Church in Elsberry. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Emma Murray; and his daughter, Sherry Walls who died May 22, 1983. Survivors include his beloved wife, of 67 years, Imogene Murray of Elsberry; and one grandson, Christopher Shawn Walls of Elsberry. He also leaves several other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at the Elsberry United Methodist Church.
