Hilary L. Burkemper A Mass of Christian Burial for Hilary L. Burkemper of Troy, MO formerly of Old Monroe, MO was held at 10 a.m. Thurs., May 27, 2004 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church near Old Monroe. Msgr. Gregory Schmidt, church pastor, officiated with burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery near Old Monroe. Serving as pallbearers were Randy Bals, Gary Bals, Gene Prinster, Doug Burkemper, Tim Burkemper and Louie Burkemper. Mr. Burkemper, 72, died early Tues. morning, May 25, 2004 at St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake Saint Louis, MO. Born June 3, 1931 in Old Monroe, he was the son of the late Frank S. and Agatha Mennemeyer Burkemper. He was united in marriage on April 7, 1956 in Old Monroe to Wilma Lee Bals. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served in the United States Army until he was honorably discharged as a corporal on June 24, 1960. He was employed as a carpenter for a number of years for Joseph Vatterott before going to work for Eugene Cokley Construction, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Carpenters Union Local #1987, the American Legion Post #420 in Old Monroe and the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church near Old Monroe. Besides his parents Frank S. and Agatha Burkemper, he was preceded in death by ten brothers: an infant, Matthew, Richard, Adolph, Gilbert, Stephen, Lambert, Bernard, Frank, Lester, and Dennis Burkemper; and two sisters: Delphine McMenamy and Mary Salome Burkemper. Survivors include his beloved wife, Wilma Burkemper of Troy; two sons: Greg Burkemper and his wife, Jere, of Troy, and Roy Burkemper and his wife, Gwen, of Moscow Mills, MO; three daughters: Leslie Schieffer and her husband, Chris, of Troy, Donna Jordan and her husband, David, of Atlanta, GA, and Jan Wagner and her husband, Scott, of Ripon, WI; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He also leaves three sisters: Ann Schipper of Troy, Josephine Vehige and her husband, Alex, of Old Monroe, and Helen Prinster of O'Fallon, MO; one sister-in-law, Margie Burkemper of O'Fallon; many, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 2-9 p.m. Wed., May 26, 2004 with a Rosary Service at 5 p.m. at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield, MO.
