Obituary of Vernon Moudy

Vernon Maurice Moudy Funeral services for Vernon Maurice Moudy of Elsberry, MO were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 21, 2004 at Carter Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Duaine Blackmore of Forman, AR officiated with burial in Star Hope Cemetery near Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers were Richard Green, Jeffrey Allen, Paul Hallemeier, David Meers, Bill Rockwell and David Brooksher. Mr. Moudy, 87, died Tuesday afternoon, May 18, 2004 at the Elsberry Health Care Center near Elsberry. Born March 1, 1917 in Belleville, AR, he was the son of the late Herbert Earl and Florence Wilkinson Moudy. A graduate of Belleville High School, he was Valedictorian of the class of 1935. He held the Arkansas State Track title for the 100-yard dash in 1935. He served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged as a Corporal. He was united in marriage on October 23, 1983 in Camden, AR to Margaret "Sis" Hausgen. Mr. Moudy owned and operated Vernon Moudy Real Estate in Elsberry for many years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #226 in Elsberry; and the Missouri Association of Realtors. He was also an accomplished poet. Besides his parents, Herbert and Florence Moudy, he was preceded in death by one brother, Mason Moudy; and two sisters: Verdell Brooksher and Wanda Havner. Survivors include his beloved wife of 20 years, Margaret Moudy of Elsberry; one daughter, Jean Allen and her husband, Jim, of Elsberry; one son, Keith Moudy and his fianc�, Terri Lee, of the Village of Innsbrook, MO; two step-sons: Bill Blakey and his wife, Linda, of Clarksville, MO, and Rick Brown and his wife, Mickey, of Cape Girardeau, MO; one step-daughter: Sharon Eakins and her husband, Marvin, of Foley, MO; three grandchildren: Jaymie Hallemeier and her husband, Paul, of St. Charles, MO, Jeff Allen and his wife, Nancy, of St. Charles, and Stacey Meers and her husband, David, of St. Peters; and eight great-grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, Morris Moudy of Russellville, AR; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 21, 2004 at Carter Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
