Obituary of Grace Zumwalt

Grace Margaret Zumwalt Funeral services for Grace Margaret Zumwalt of Troy, MO, formerly of Elsberry, MO, were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 2004 at Carter Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Donna Doan, pastor of the Troy First Christian Church, officiated with burial in the Elsberry City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Bill DeGerlia, Bruce Westermann, Greg Westermann, Kyle Westermann, John Westermann and Darin Powell. Mrs. Zumwalt, 92, died Monday evening, May 17, 2004 at the Lincoln County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Troy. Born February 10, 1912 in Montgomery City, MO, she was the daughter of the late Basil and Anna Knapke Halsema. She was united in marriage on November 7, 1936 in Edgewood, MO to Taylor Errett Zumwalt. She was employed for a number of years as a seamstress at Wells Lamont Glove factory in Elsberry. She was a member of the Troy Christian Church. Besides her parents, Basil and Anna Halsema, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Dan Halsema and Harman Halsema; six sisters: Marie Stewart, Bernice Downing, Irene Fines, Blanche Schumaker, Florence Bryant and Esther Patton; her son-in-law, John Westermann; and her beloved husband of 41 years, Taylor Zumwalt, who died February 25, 1978. Survivors include one daughter, Dorothy Westermann of Troy; three grandchildren: John Gregory Westermann of Hawk Point, MO, Bruce Taylor Westermann and his wife, Lisa, of Troy, and Deborah Powell and her husband, Darin, of Hannibal, MO; and five great-grandchildren. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at Carter Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
