Obituary of Vincent Sharpe

Vincent LeRoy Sharpe Funeral services for Vincent LeRoy Sharpe of Winfield, MO, were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield. Rev. Sue Jackson, pastor of Makin' Memorial United Methodist Church, officiated. Following the service, Mr. Sharpe was cremated at Memorial Park Crematory in St. Louis, MO. Mr. Sharpe, 85, died Saturday evening, April 3, 2004 at Silex Community Care Center in Silex, MO. Born February 9, 1919 in Prospect Hill, MO, he was the son of Lee Roy and Della Stonebraker Sharpe. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II from August 15, 1944 until August 27, 1946. He was united in marriage on December 24, 1948 in Foley, MO to Mary Lou Duey. A farmer most of his life, he also worked as a lockman for the Corp of Engineers at Lock and Dam #25 in Winfield, retiring in 1979. Mr. Sharpe was a former fireman shortly after the formation of the Winfield/Foley Volunteer Fire Department. He was a former member of the Carpenters Union in Winfield. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees; the Robert Fisher American Legion Post #410 in Foley; and Makin' Memorial United Methodist Church near Winfield. Besides his parents, Roy and Della Sharpe, he was preceded in death by one sister, Heloise Crenshaw; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Sharpe and Juanita Sharpe. Survivors include his beloved wife of 55 years, Mary Lou Sharpe of Winfield; one daughter, Michele Pettig and her husband, Jerry, of Troy; one grandson, Russell Sitton and his wife, Chrison, of Foley; and two great-grandchildren: Brittney and Kyle. He also leaves three brothers: Greg Sharpe of Winfield, Bob Sharpe of Elsberry, MO, and Gary Sharpe and his wife, Beverly, of Elsberry; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
