Obituary of Wilbert Bell

Wilbert Lee Bell Funeral services for Wilbert Lee Bell of Winfield, MO were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 2004 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield. Rev. Sue Jackson, pastor of Makin' Memorial United Methodist Church, officiated with burial in Winfield Cemetery in Winfield. Serving as pallbearers were Brian Wehde, David Wehde, Chad Ward, Steve Miles, Carrie Ward, and Jill Miles. Mr. Bell, 84, died early Thursday morning, March 4, 2004 at his home near Winfield. Born June 13, 1919 in Preston, NB, he was the son of the late Vollie Jones and Eva Pearl Parsons Bell. He was a 1938 graduate of Winfield High School. He was united in marriage on July 27, 1940 in Jackson, MO to Ruth Elizabeth Crenshaw. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943 until 1945. Mr. Bell was employed for over 30 years as an insurance agent and general manager for Lincoln County Farmers Mutual in Troy, MO, retiring in 1997. He served on the Winfield School Board for 23 years. He was a member of the Robert C. Fisher American Legion Post in Foley, MO and the Winfield/Old Monroe VFW Post. Besides his parents, Vollie and Eva Bell, he was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Jameson; and two brothers-in-law, Bill Gallup and Paul Jameson. Survivors include his beloved wife of almost 64 years, Ruth Bell of Winfield; two daughters: Phyllis Wehde and her husband, Wayne, of Winfield, MO, and Janet Kelly and her husband, Jerry, of St. Charles, MO; four grandchildren: Brian Wehde and his wife, Barb, David Wehde and his wife, Jessica, Carrie Ward and her husband, Chad, and Jill Miles and her husband, Steve; and seven great-grandchildren: Tyler, Victoria, and Audrey Wehde, Peyton and Olivia Ward, Amanda and Brandon Miles. He also leaves one sister, Marjorie Gallup of Elsberry, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2004 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
