Obituary of Arlene Mae Smith

Arlene Mae Smith A Mass of Christian Burial for Arlene Mae Burkemper Smith of Troy, MO, formerly of Old Monroe, MO, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 24, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Old Monroe. Fr. Richard Rath, church pastor, will officiate with burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Eric Dobelmann, Wade Burkemper, Greg Lenk, Daniel Heitman, Eric Edinger and Jeff Trendley. Mrs. Smith, 57, passed away early Wednesday morning, November 19, 2014 at her home near Troy. Born May 22, 1957 in St. Charles, MO, she was the daughter of Gilbert and Evelyn Albers Burkemper. Arlene was a 1975 graduate of Winfield High School. She was united in marriage on January 10, 1976 in Old Monroe to David Paul Smith. To this union, three children were born: Wendy, Sarah and Kurt. Arlene worked as the secretary for Mid Western Veterinary Supply for 28 years. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church for many years before moving to Troy where she became a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Evelyn Burkemper. Survivors include her beloved husband of 38 years, David Smith of Troy; two daughters: Wendy Heitman and her husband, Daniel, of Foley, MO and Sarah Edinger and her husband, Eric, of Troy; one son, Kurt Smith of St. Peters, MO; and four grandchildren: Ethan and Drew Edinger and Jacob and Joey Heitman. Arlene also leaves her brother, Allen Burkemper and his wife, Norma, of Henley, MO; three sisters: Linda Dobelmann and her husband, Marty, of Canon City, CO, Sue Whitnah and her husband, Rich, of O'Fallon, MO and Judy Lenk and her husband, Leo, of Silex, MO; her Godchildren: Eric Dobelmann, Tammy Dixon and Wade Burkemper; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield and again from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Service on Monday at Church.
