Obituary of Russell Capps

Russell Lowell "Pete" Capps Funeral services for Russell Lowell "Pete" Capps of Elsberry, MO were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 21, 2004 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Allen Calkins, pastor of Star Hope Baptist Church, officiated with burial in Star Hope Cemetery near Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers were Dennis Capps, Michael Capps, Billy Capps, Thomas Capps, Danny Coleman, Terry Coleman, Jason Capps, Anthony Capps, and Christopher Damron. Mr. Capps, 96, died Wednesday night, February 18, 2004 at Silex Community Care Center in Silex, MO. Born January 14, 1908 in Elsberry, he was the son of the late Thomas Anderson and Ida Belle Hobbs Capps. He was united in marriage on April 21, 1928 in Independence, MO to Octa Pearl Brainard. A farmer much of his life, he was also employed for a number of years as a laborer for LaCrosse Lumber, retiring in 1970. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Independence, MO. Besides his parents, Thomas and Ida Capps, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Beulah Mundel and Lula Graham; two brothers: Clarence Capps and Cornelius Capps; one daughter-in-law, Lorraine Capps; two granddaughters: Diane Reeves and Debbie Capps; and his beloved wife, Octa Pearl Capps, who died April 6, 1995. Survivors include two sons: Lowell "Bud" Capps and his wife, Rosemary, of Paynesville, MO, and Thomas Capps and his wife, Lois, of Elsberry; one daughter, Rosina Belle Coleman of Foley, MO; 9 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 20, 2004 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 South Fifth Street, Elsberry, MO 63343.
