Obituary of Richard Stewart

Richard Otto Stewart Funeral services for Richard Otto Stewart of Elsberry, MO were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Charles Moore, pastor of Niox Creek Baptist Church in Louisiana, MO, officiated with burial was in Grandview Burial Park in Hannibal, MO. Serving as pallbearers were Harris Guyton, Jared Stewart, Heath Suddarth, Bruce Stewart, Jimmy Ross, Richard Grimshaw, Heath Zwick, and Eddie Wheeler. Mr. Stewart, 90, died Saturday, January 31, 2004 at Pike County Memorial Hospital in Louisiana, MO. Born November 30, 1913 in Hannibal, he was the son of the late Marion Harris and Ida Louise Arp Stewart. He was united in marriage on May 22, 1930 in Salisbury, MO to Freda Maxine Watts. He farmed the Withers Mills Area west of Hannibal until 1937. In 1937, he went to work for Chenoda Farms where he was employed for 43 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of Gideons International and the Annada Community Christian Church in Annada, MO. His hobby and enjoyment was hard work. Besides his parents, Marion and Ida Stewart, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Lester Stewart and Robert Lee Stewart; one sister-in-law, Madeline Stewart; one daughter-in-law, Joyce Stewart; one daughter, Alice Faye Stewart; one grandson, Greg Harris; and his beloved wife, Freda Stewart, who died May 28, 1994. Survivors include two sons: Richard H. "Dick" Stewart of Elsberry, and Harold Gene Stewart and his wife, Dottie, of Annada, MO; six grandchildren, fourteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, Marion Harris Stewart, Jr. and his wife, Barb, of Hannibal; two sisters-in-law: Betty Lou Pardee of Arkansas, and Alice Stewart of Camp Point, IL; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, February 2, 2004 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
