Obituary of Lucy Ferguson

Lucy Leanna Ferguson Funeral services for Lucy Leanna Ferguson of Elsberry, MO were held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2004 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Gene Stewart officiated with burial in Greenwood Cemetery in Clarksville, MO. Serving as pallbearers were Tom Ferguson, Patrick Reid, Norman "Buddy" Ferguson Jr., Tommy Bowles, Don Bowers, and John Hancock; honorary pallbearers were Norval Hall, Jimmy Jeans, Robert Watts, and Walter Ogden. Miss Ferguson, 104, died early Sunday morning, January 11, 2004 at her home in Elsberry. Born March 31, 1899 in Pike County, MO, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson and Artie Lee Bell Ferguson. She was a 1919 graduate of Paynesville High School. She received her teaching degree from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in 1928. She taught elementary school for 47 years at numerous schools, including Paynesville, Clarksville, Ramsey Creek, Sand Ridge, Truxton, and finally retiring from McKinney School in St. Charles in 1969. She was a member of the Alpha Beta Sorority, the Clan Ferguson Society of North America, retired teachers of Lincoln County, retired teachers of Missouri, and the St. Charles Historical Society. She was also a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Alexander Chapter #242 and the Elsberry First Christian Church. Besides her parents, Thomas and Artie Ferguson, she was preceded in death by one brother, Archie Ferguson, who died in 1979; one sister-in-law, Ethel Ferguson; and two nephews: Norman Ferguson and Ralph Ferguson. Survivors include one niece, Dorothy Reid of Eolia, MO; one niece-in-law, Ginny Ferguson of Trenton, IL; one great- niece, Sandy Reid of Webster Groves, MO; and three great-nephews: Tom Ferguson of Waterloo, IL, Patrick Reid of Eolia, and Norman Ferguson, Jr., of Trenton, IL; seven great-great nieces and nephews; one great-great-great nephew; several other relatives and friend. Visitation was held from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2004 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
