Obituary of William Colbert

William E. "Butch" Colbert Funeral services for William Everett "Butch" Colbert of Winfield, MO were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at the Foley First Baptist Church in Foley, MO. Rev. Richard Turnbull, church pastor, officiated with burial in Winfield Cemetery in Winfield. Serving as pallbearers were Dale Colbert, Kurt Colbert, Justin Colbert, Scott Colbert, Billy Irwin, and Willie Creech; honorary pallbearers were Ryan Colbert, Brendan Colbert, and Jimmy Colbert. Mr. Colbert, 76, died Friday evening, January 2, 2004 at his home near Winfield. Born April 4, 1927 in Silex, MO, he was the son of the late John William and Ethel Achor Colbert. He was united in marriage on July 20, 1952 in Winfield, MO to Marjorie June Cannon. He was employed for 25 years as a line up technician with McDonnell Douglas, retiring in 1980. He owned and operated Butch's Parts and Repairs for 11 years and operated B & B Towing for 20 years. Mr. Colbert was a 45-year member of the IAM Union in St. Louis, MO. He was a member and deacon of Foley Baptist Church in Foley, MO. Besides his parents, John and Ethel Colbert, he was preceded in death by one brother, Tom Colbert; one sister, Matilee Colbert; one sister-in-law, Doris Graves; and his son, Mickey Colbert, who died in 1963 Survivors include his beloved wife of 51 years, Marjorie Colbert of Winfield; two sons: Bill Colbert and his wife, Marilyn, of Winfield, and Randy Colbert and his wife, Julie, of O'Fallon, MO; eight grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He also leaves two brothers: Jack Colbert and his wife, Elba, of Louisiana, MO, and Cecil "Pep" Colbert and his wife, Wanda, of Troy; one sister, Ruby Bobeen of Troy, MO; one brother-in-law, Jimmy Cannon of Winfield; five sisters-in-law: Betty Ferguson, Barbara Jeffries, and Vivian Turnbull all of Winfield, Rene Meers of St. Charles, MO, and Donna Adams of Paris, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 2:00 - 9:00 p.m. Monday, January 5, 2004 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
