Obituary of Alfred Farmer

Alfred Alexander Farmer Funeral services for Alfred Alexander Farmer of Elsberry, MO were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 27, 2003 at Star Hope Baptist Church near Elsberry. Rev. Allen Calkins, church pastor, officiated with burial in Star Hope Cemetery near Elsberry. Music for the service was provided by Irma Linda Wall and Jenny Lynn Heras. Serving as pallbearers were Gary Dickherber, Gary Luck, Gilbert Watts, Hadley Meyer, Cannon Watts and Jim Leathers. Mr. Farmer, 81, died Tuesday evening, December 23, 2003 at St. Joseph Health Center in St. Charles, MO. Born April 16, 1922 in Briscoe, MO, he was the son of the late John William and Beulah Mae Wells Farmer. He was united in marriage on October 17, 1952 in Elsberry to Doris Ann Hines. A veteran of World War II, he served his country in the Pacific Theater with the U.S. Army. Trained in heavy equipment and construction, he built runways on the islands in the South Pacific during the war. Continuing that trade, he was employed for many years as a heavy equipment operator for Dave Kolb Contracting in St. Louis, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Hoisting Engineers Local #513 in St. Louis, MO. He was also a 50+ year member and past master of New Hope Lodge #199 A.F.&A.M in Elsberry. Besides his parents, John and Beulah Farmer, he was preceded in death by four sisters: Esther Mae Farmer, Donnie Stewart, Mabel Foster and Imogene Meyers; and one brother, Virgil Farmer. Survivors include his beloved wife of 51 years, Doris Farmer of Elsberry; one brother, Alva Farmer of Tigard, Oregon; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Visitation was held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 26, 2003 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
