Obituary of Ruby Hemmer
Ruby Elizabeth Hemmer
Funeral services for Ruby Elizabeth Hemmer of Elsberry, MO were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 28, 2003 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield, MO. Father Bill Baier, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, officiated with burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery near Old Monroe. Serving as pallbearers were Gary Tiller, Glenn Tiller, Todd Tiller, Neal Tiller, Doug Langston, Mark Langston, Scott Langston, Craig DeMars, Tony Hemmer, Richard Hemmer, and Darren Hemmer.
Mrs. Hemmer, 90, died Monday night, December 22, 2003 at Elsberry Health Care Center near Elsberry. Born June 28, 1913 in Elsberry, she was the daughter of Sam F. and Willa Smith Marling. She was united in marriage on August 3, 1933 in Old Monroe to Joseph Francis Hemmer. She was an active member of the Elsberry Senior Citizen, and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She served as the contact person for the OATS Bus. She was a member of the Ladies Soldality, the Sacred Heart Quilters and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elsberry.
Besides her parents, Sam and Willa Marling, she was preceded in death by one son, Robin Robert Hemmer, who died as a child; one grandson, Ryan DeMars; one brother, Charles Austin; and her beloved husband, Joseph Hemmer, who died November 17, 1988.
Survivors include eight children: Patricia Langston and her husband, O'Neal, of Winfield, Elaine Tiller and her husband, Nelson, also of Winfield, Richard L. Hemmer and his wife, Enid, of North Ridge, CA, Gerald Hemmer and his wife, Cindy, of Winfield, Laura Hemmer of Elsberry; Terri Livengood of O'Fallon, MO, Wendell Hemmer and his wife, Sandy, of Apache Junction, AZ, and JoAnn Hoeber and her husband, Ed, of Elsberry; 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She also leaves one brother, Bill Austin and his wife, June, of St. Louis, MO; two sisters-in-law: Heneritta Burkemper of St. Louis, and Dolores Hemmer of Troy, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from Noon until the time of the service Sunday, December 28, 2003 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield. Memorials may be made to the OATS Bus in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 3838 East Highway 47, P.O. Box 253, Winfield, MO 63389.
