Obituary of John Riffle

John Robert Riffle Funeral services for John Robert Riffle of Lake St. Louis, MO, formerly of Elsberry, MO were held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 14, 2003 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Sammy Lorton, pastor of Foley Holiness Church, officiated with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery in Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers were Dwayne Fielder, Rick LaFata, Michael Riffle, Calvin Shelton, Shane Riffle, and Josh Turner; honorary pallbearers were Eric Riffle, Adrian Riffle, Evan Stahl, Michael Ligon, Josh Moore, and Andy Williamson. Mr. Riffle, 75, died Wednesday morning, November 12, 2003 at St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake St. Louis, MO. Born April 25, 1928 in New Hope, MO, he was the son of the late Allie Thurman and Ethyl D. Damron Riffle. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1945 until 1948. He was united in marriage on August 11, 1984 in Gerald, MO to Eunice Ruth Cox Nesslage. He was employed for several years as the machine room supervisor for Drug Package in O'Fallon, MO, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the O'Fallon American Legion. Besides his parents, Allie and Ethyl Riffle, he was preceded in death by one step-granddaughter, Keli Murphy; one sister, Pat Stewart; two brothers: Rodney Riffle and Delmar Riffle; and his first wife, Lelia Riffle. Survivors include his beloved wife of 19 years, Eunice Riffle of Lake St. Louis, MO; four sons: Robert Fielder and his wife, Diane, of Elsberry, John Michael Riffle of Elsberry, Gilbert Wayne Riffle and his wife, Cindy, of Elsberry, and Larry Eugene Riffle of Troy, MO; four daughters: Mary Louise Lafata of Lake Ozark, MO, Kathy Diane Morgan of Elsberry, Carol Mills and her husband, Rob, of Elsberry, and Ethel Lynn Riffle of St. Louis, MO; one step-son, Gerald Nesslage and his wife, Sue Ellen, of Owensville, MO; four step-daughters: Shirley Buck and her husband, Sammy, of Lake Sherwood, MO, Peggy Waltermann and her husband, Gary, of Florissant, CO, Brenda Hubbartt and her husband, Dennis, of Cottleville, MO, and Susan Hollinsworth and her husband, Ricky, of Grain Valley, MO; 14 grandchildren, 18 step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 19 step-great-grandchildren. He also leaves two brothers: Homer A. Riffle and his wife, Gertrude, of Peno, MO, and Stephen L. Riffle and his wife, Brenda, of Whiteside; one sister, Fae Cox and her husband, Woodrow, of Elsberry; two sisters-in-law: Virginia Riffle of Elsberry, and Berneta Riffle of Foley, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service Friday, November 14, 2003 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
