Obituary of Henry Horton

Henry Luther Horton Funeral services for Henry Luther Horton of Elsberry, MO were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 2, 2003 at Star Hope Baptist Church near Elsberry. Rev. Raymond Doussard, chaplain of AmHeart Hospice, and Rev. Allen Calkins, church pastor, officiated with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery in Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers were Billy Collins, Jerry Horton, Donnie Kinsler, Danny Kinsler, Deanie Kinsler, Landon Armbruster, Zachary Horton, and Peter Kinsler. Honorary pallbearers were Gene Briscoe, Cameron Horton, Winston Bailey, Dennis Hammack, Charles McLeod, Gus Loness, Robert Bevans, Charles Horton, and Dick Whiteside. Mr. Horton, 78, died Friday morning, October 31, 2003 at his home in Elsberry, MO. Born April 13, 1925 in Edison, TN, he was the son of the late George and Sarah Bowen Horton. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II from May 19, 1944 until January 22, 1946. He was united in marriage on September 9, 1948 in Harlan, KY to Georgia Marie Kinsler. He was employed for a number of years as a painter for Custom Coatings in St. Charles, MO. He was a member of the New Hope Masonic Lodge #199, the American Legion Post #226 in Elsberry and the Star Hope Baptist Church near Elsberry. Beside his parents, George and Sarah Horton, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Grant Horton and Bill Horton; and three sisters: Stella Trent, Jane Gibson, and Ruth Arrington. Survivors include his beloved wife of 55 years, Georgia Horton of Elsberry; one son, Jerry Horton and his wife, Vickie, of St. Charles, MO; one daughter, Judy Armbruster of Columbia, MO; four grandchildren: Landon Armbruster of Ballwin, MO, Brook Ruckmann of St. Charles, and Erin and Zachary Horton of St. Charles; and one great-grandson, Cameron Horton. He also leaves one brother, Charles Horton of Duffield, VA; five sisters: Betty Livesay of Seymour, IN, Glenna Trent of Morristown, TN, Lillie Holt of Edison, TN, Phyllis Harrison of French Lick, IN, and Pearl Johnson of Johnson City, TN; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including his special buddy, his dog, Rusty. Visitation was held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Saturday, November 1, 2003 with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
