Obituary of Anna Whiteside

Anna Lea Whiteside Funeral services for Anna Lea Whiteside of Elsberry, MO were held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 6, 2003 at Carter Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Sue Jackson, pastor of Smith Chapel United Methodist Church near Elsberry, officiated with burial in the Elsberry City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Ed Haney, Andrew Leffeler, Phillip Leffeler, Gary Stewart, Keith Stewart and Ray York; honorary pallbearers were Ryan York and Jimmy Stewart. Mrs. Whiteside, 79, died Thursday afternoon, October 2, 2003 at the Lincoln County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Troy, MO. Born October 19, 1923 in St. Charles County near O'Fallon, MO, she was the daughter of the late Adam John and Myrtle May Kitson Leffeler. She was united in marriage on June 14, 1947 in Elsberry to Alten Andrew Whiteside. They operated a farm together for many, many years. An avid horsewoman, she belonged to several saddle clubs and participated in numerous trail rides. Besides her parents, Adam and Myrtle Leffeler, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Corrine Leffeler and Frances May Leffeler, who died as an infant; one son, Larry Eugene Whiteside, who died November 11, 1958; and her beloved husband of 51 years, Alten Whiteside, who died September 4, 1998. Survivors include two brothers: Jerome Harold Leffeler and his wife, Joann, of Winfield, MO, and Robert Lee Leffeler and his wife, Carol, of Batesville, AR; two nephews, two nieces, several great-nephews and great-nieces, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 5, 2003 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the charity of the donor's choice in care of Carter Ricks Funeral Home, 107 South Fifth Street, Elsberry, MO 63343.
