Ernest John Burkemper A Mass of Christian Burial for Ernest John Burkemper of Old Monroe, MO was held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 13, 2003 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church near Old Monroe. Father Gregory Schmidt, church pastor, officiated with burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery near Old Monroe. Serving as pallbearers were Edward Freise, Dennis Freise, Leonard Reller, John Reller, Jeff Reller, and David Reller. Mr. Burkemper, 75, died Wednesday evening, September 10, 2003 at his home near Old Monroe. Born August 3, 1928 in Old Monroe, he was the son of the late John and Mary Dreisewerd Burkemper. He was united in marriage on October 26, 1949 in Troy, MO to Shirley Carter. A farmer all his life, he was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church near Old Monroe. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Olivia Freise, Coletta Reller, and Margaret Reckamp; and two brothers: Martin Burkemper and Leander Burkemper. Survivors include his beloved wife of almost 54 years, Shirley Burkemper of Old Monroe; two daughters: Phyllis Ann Thornhill and her husband, Glenn, of Moscow Mills, MO, and Jane Patcha and her husband, Jim, of Pacific, MO; and four grandchildren. He also leaves six sisters: Louise Holthaus of Harvard, IL, Pauline Reckamp of Foley, AL, Adele Roettger and her husband, Lester, of Wentzville, MO, Mary Ann Lenk of Troy, MO, Alvira Roettger and her husband, Charles, of Troy, and Viola Kientzy and her husband, Dick, of Silex, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 12, 2003 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield, MO.
